We all have our favorite holiday, our favorite time of the year, and we all have our reasons…well…my favorite time of the year is Christmas! So, I’m pretty dang excited, especially today.
For those of y’all who celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas, and to those who do not, Happy Holidays!
Trust me, I love opening presents and I love giving people presents as well, but I don’t love Christmas just because of the gifts. I love this season in general, from the moment Christmas lights, trees and decorations start to go up, spirits change. I admire the kindness and “in the spirit of the holidays” response to doing something good. Watching others pay for the person behind them in line and seeing everyone smile and hug because they are filled with joy. The best part is seeing everyone, children and adults alike, walk into a room or a Christmas display and seeing their eyes light up and sparkle as they gaze at the remarkable spaces before them.
This season encompasses Christmas and New Year’s, but it embodies so much more. Happiness, joy, kindness. It’s being cozy by the fire with your mug full of hot chocolate telling stories or singing along to Christmas carols. It’s about wearing matching pajamas for a cheesy Christmas Card photo or wearing your ugly Christmas sweater to work and getting a good laugh. It’s about loving everything about life and everyone who is in it.
It’s about being with family and creating traditions. For Christmas, it’s just my parents, my sister and myself since my family lives abroad, but we love our small holidays. We have baked French toast and all the goodies for breakfast, we have a meat fondue for a late lunch (we do things a little differently) and then scrumptious desserts later in the evening. If the weather is nice we love going on walks, and during the day we sip wine and enjoy each other’s company. We make the most of the day and cherish every moment.
So, we all have our favorite holidays and time of the year, and we all have our reasons why. Mine is right now, it’s Christmas, what’s yours?
Happy Holidays :)
